Hello everyone,

This is Sam and I am a graduate student studying in Los Angeles. I am conducting a research study about dating apps and relationships among gay men. I invite all of you to participate!

This short survey will take 5–10 minutes to complete. At the end of the survey, you will have a chance to win one of five $20.00 Amazon gift cards. This is not a huge amount of compensation, but as a graduate student I cannot secure too much funding for my research. To enter the drawing, once you have submitted the survey, you will be directed to another link and insert your email address. No personally identifiable information, including your email address, will be linked to your responses.

To be eligible to participate in the study, you need to be (1) at least 18 years old, (2) fluent in English, and (3) currently living in the United States, (4) gay-identified, and (5) be a current dating app user (i.e. logged onto a dating app at least once a week in the past four weeks). By “dating apps,” I mean both apps that are designed specifically for gay communities (such as Grindr, Jack’d, Scruff, Hornet) and apps that are not specifically designed for gay communities (such as Tinder, CoffeeMeetsBagel).

I really thank you in advance for your time and participation! If you have any questions about this study, please feel free to contact me at (with the subject line “Dating Apps and Relationships”) or leave a comment!
