Just discovered this forum, and thought I'd add a bit of internationalism. ;)

I'm a gay woman who doesn't like to identify as a lesbian. Not that I'm still in the closet - I just don't like the word lesbian. Personal preference pretty much sums it up, really. :q

My interests include going to the movies and theater, watching British sitcoms (Allo Allo and Keeping Up Appearances for ex.), knitting, reading, listening to music (Beck, REM, The Beatles, etc), and trying to find a girlfriend before Christmas. That counts as an interest, right? ^_^;

Incidentally, I was reading the Wikipedia article on same sex rights, and I think it might be somewhat misleading. Same sex marriage was made legal in Iceland in 1996 - the reason it was called a system of registered partnerships was because the state church was still being stubborn and old fashioned. The church I belong to used to hold blessing ceremonies for same sex couples, and I believe other churches did the same. In fact, my mother grew up in a small town where homosexuality was generally accepted, and she was born in 1947. Unfortunately, we're still lagging behind on bi visibility and transgender rights, but we're getting there. :)

Welcome - exciting to have some Iceland "flava" in the house!  :)  Thanks for the update on marriage rights.

Just for the sake of discussion, why don't you like the word "lesbian"?

How are you doing on your search for a girlfriend by Christmas???

Not much to discuss there, I'm afraid. ^_^; I just don't like the way it sounds, somehow. It doesn't roll off the tongue like, say, the word 'gay' does. Or maybe that's just me. ^_^;

Iceland is probably one of the most advanced countries in the world when it comes to LGBT rights - gay marriage is performed in most churches now, and the government recently stopped funding a local church because of their anti-gay propaganda. Also, the U.S. Embassy in Iceland actually took part in the last Pride Parade. ^_^

No luck on the girlfriend quest, I'm afraid. :s Hope springs eternal, I guess. :)
